This book was a very pleasant surprise. Have you ever picked up a book before when you had just sat down, read the first couple of sentences and then heaved a sigh of relief and snuggled yourself onto the couch? I did with this book. I was hooked from the first paragraph and knew that I had better settle in because I wasn't moving any time soon.

The characters in this book breathe such life that you can't help but fall for them. I could see myself in the middle of the group of friends the author describes laughing and joking and being one of them. The conversations are wonderful and often produced snorts, giggles and other sounds of laughter from me throughout my reading.

As the book progressed, I basically forgot about everything else as I was so enthralled with reading. I love the character building in this novel. There is no point in this book where it will let you down. I thought the main character was someone I could easily identify with and her lack of self esteem in the beginning made me feel closer to her than it would have if she were supposed to be physically perfect like so many other main characters.

If you are looking for a fabulous way to spend an afternoon, this is it.

Never know what is going to happen next. Ending is great. If you enjoy Jodi Picoult you'll enjoy this book. If you enjoy drama, romance and suspence you will enjoy this book.
I have to first simply say that the description doesn't do the book justice! While it is a romance, it's that and so much more. It's filled with richly colorful characters that you can visualize; I can't pick my fave, between Joker, Gram, her stoic grandfather, her girlfriends - I love them all! And Meg, who found her inner courage to expect the life she deserves.
I love how the love story unfolds. The main character Meg delves into the secrets and dysfunction of her family, with a twist, or two! And the 'close enough to reality' factor is there, tying it up at the end beautifully. A thoroughly enjoyable read! I started it in the morning and finished it that night - I couldn't put it down! Definitely a must read!
I really enjoyed this book. Liked the characters, no editing issues, good flow. I read it all pretty quickly. I will look for more books by this author. A few things in the book were a little strange although this is nit picking... I don't think the lies were lily white, the vodka drinking grandmother was very high functioning, and when someone labels herself submissive, I expect something else. But really, I liked the book.
This book has to attributes that had I known beforehand, would have kept me from buying it. BUT, I am glad I didn't know beforehand because I would have missed out on a truly wonderful story. First, I generally don't care for books with dream scenes or journal entry scenes. Generally speaking, I find too often that each are used by authors who either run out of story or who do not possess the experience to keep the conflict alive thus resorting to dreams, journals, flashbacks and the like. This author, however, used each with skill. They were not essential in helping to move the story along, but were used to add to an already interesting story.
I felt the pacing of the story was rhythmic, an easy read with no dead spots or accelerations that felt unnatural.
I had read snippets beforehand regarding the bachelorette party and although it was refreshingly original, that was not the part of the book that I would call 'the best part'. All of the characters are real and easy to empathize with, but it is the relationship between the main character, Meg, and her family, Meg and her friends that made what could have been a mediocre novel great. This book covers all aspects of family, from love to embarrassment, through secrets and acknowledgment and finally acceptance, all the while following one women on her journey to find out if she is on the right life path.
I have to admit the beginning of the book almost turned me off. But, I am glad I continued to read. The relationship between the main character and her friends was great. Some facets of her relationship with her ex-boyfriend didn't ring true, especially after the breakup. Much of the book was somewhat depressing. Then the mood would change to unrealistic (the bachelorette party) to sad and teary (the nursing home scenes.) One the whole, I did enjoy the book, even the ending which I felt was a bit predictable. The author knows how to string you along so you keep turning pages.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I had a hard time getting into the storyline. After I got through the first couple of chapters, the story and characters started to fall into place. It was well worth the investment of time to plod through the beginning. The development of the main characters is a bit slow and I think that is what got me confused. Once I had everyone sorted out, the story evolved quite pleasantly.

Just when I thought I had the "twist" figured out, I was surprised by a sudden change of direction. This book will keep you turning pages. It's a romance... No, it's a mystery... No, it's a romance...

I loved the book. I might have gotten it free, I don't remember. Most of the free ones I read a bit and then buy something else. The only problem with this is she uses apostrophe s for plurals which is NEVER acceptable. I first noticed Saturday's and thought it must have been overlooked by proofreaders then later saw Friday's. It had nothing to do with something belonging to Friday or Saturday and not a contraction for Friday or Sarurday is. The plural of them are Fridays and Saturdays. As a good writer, I presume she took extensive English classes. As a teacher and avid reader, that stuff drives me crazy. It is like using your for you're or to for too.
