It is not my habit to read anything paranormal, but THE SPACE BETWEEN by Erik Tomblin looked interesting and not too far out. A young musician, raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, is finishing up a successful tour when his lawyer announces that he is the proud owner of a house and acreage in South Georgia, left to him by.... well, that's the big question. By whom? The trust group is not allowed to say who willed it to him or why. Curious, and needing a rest, he decides to go check it out. What he finds in the house is nothing like he expected. Some time travel is the focal point of this novel, but the story is is basically a mystery, so that is why I was interested enough to read it through. It was a pretty good read, albeit on the strange side. The writing style was pleasant, I thought, and I would probably really enjoy something by this author that was on the normal side.Tags : The Space Between [Erik Tomblin] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Although I still have some questions about the story, it is an amazing book. Mystery is so intense that keeps you sit in the edge of your chair waiting to see what happens next.
My head is still reeling from this book! The author keeps mystery and suspense present throughout the book. Absolutely loved it!
I read this whole book but the ending was very strange and I am not a time traveler fan. Would not reccomend it to anyone who is not into that sort of literature.
This book will quickly grab your imagination and interest, but some of the things in it are not logical and caused me to ask myself some weird questions. However, it is an interesting and quick read. Great price as well.
This is a very well written book and I enjoyed the writing style of the author. It was the storyline that didn't quite do it for me. I tend to stay away from time travel books, because I drive myself crazy over-thinking about what's happening/going to happen/never should have happened etc. This book was listed under romance, but it is much more of a mystery/time travel book and had very little romance in it. I also found myself growing incredible frustrated with the main character. Finally, just so you're prepared, don't expect a HEA.
I am not usually keen on mystery novels, so I was pleasantly surprised by the pleasure The Space Between gave me. Tomblin wrote creatively of the places Isaac visited, so much so that I could envision it as if I was there with Isaac. While this is a story of people being haunted, a favorite quote of mine from Anais Nin related well to this novel.
"Many couples, many people, are not living with real human beings, but with their ghosts. Who has not followed for years the spell of a particular tone of voice, from voice to voice, as the fetishist follows a beautiful foot, scarcely seeing the woman herself? A voice, a mouth, an eye, all stemming from the original fountain of our first desire, directing it, enslaving us, until we choose to unravel the fatal web and free ourselves."
For those of us who are haunted, and all of you who will be, this novel hits a spot in your heart. Lovely
I must say, I started out enjoying this book. The voice, the setting, the characters, the plot, everything was flowing along most enjoyably. But as I read through it, little things began to annoy me and detract from the reading experience. There were unnecessary details (such as the main character thinking of throwing his clothes over the rail and then deciding not to as he would have to bend over to pick them up downstairs). And there was the way the main character was laid up for over a day by simply falling down and hitting his head. Elsewhere, the main character is described as having a "muscled stomach", yet he is easily injured in his encounter with the heroine's father.
The mystery of what happened in the house is quite intriguing. But there is no good explanation offered for why the main character keeps falling back in time.
I have to tell you, my favorite parts of this book were the more incidental scenes of small town life. When the plot moves in, it is flawed and unbelievable. I gave up over 60% of the way through the book, having had the plausibility stretched to the breaking point.
This book needs to be edited for content, which is a shame because it holds such promise. Oh, and the author needs to learn a little more about biology and psychology. The right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of the body. It is the center of the imagination and intuition. The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and it is the center of rational thought.
