I have been in the TV shopping business as a presenter, full time, since before HSN, QVC, and Evine even existed. I can tell you that the information in this book provides some superficial, insight into the TV Shopping business to outsiders. That being said, it is unquestionably the most poorly written book I've read in my life. It is so poorly written, that it is personally insulting that Piggott would ask people to read such low quality garbage. There are often 3 grammatical/spelling mistakes in the same sentence. It's like a chef cooking you a reasonably good meal, but then throwing it on the floor and telling you to eat it from the ground.The author details his personal journey through the business- The good , the bad, and the ugly. A lot of the ugly comes across as a personal and bitter rant against long established broadcasting/tv/advertising realities, but the TV home shopping channels are not innocent. Everyone in the business seems to know about QVC's systematic and ongoing white-only, anti-overweight/men/old hiring policy for host positions and it is despicable.The other networks have their stories as well.
TV is a business where many subjective decisions are made quickly by people in positions that they often are unqualified for. While this fact is irksome , anyone who has even done a 6 month internship in the business knows that's the way it is. If you jump in the pool, don't complain about getting wet. Almost every TV Host/Co-Host/Presenter has been fired numerous times due to situations beyond their control. However, if this book is representative of the quality of Thomas Piggott's TV shopping work, it's no wonder why they got rid of him.
"The Soap and the Dirt..." Piggott does not name names nor the networks he is talking about. While this fact may keep him safe from a lawsuit, it waters down any potential excitement of finding out the few miniscule tidbits of inside info that may not be obvious to TV home shopping viewers.
Ultimately... If you are willing to wade through this garbage heap of grammatical and spelling errors, you may find the grueling effort is rewarded with a couple mildly interesting facts.

A Best Seller. Very enlightening from start to finish, well worth the small cover price. Recommeded reading material for many types of audiences.
