Hiding from the past, Tenley is new to Chicago and completely alone. She spends her days working at the little antique store downstairs and her free time watching the comings and goings at the tattoo shop across the street. One particular tattoo artist has caught her attention, though she can’t bring herself to speak to him and hides whenever he comes into the store. But even with no interaction, he’s made his way into her most erotic dreams.Hayden owns Inked Armor, the tattoo studio across the street from his aunt’s antique store. Between clients, he drops in to see his aunt, and that’s when he catches his first glimpse of the timid but gorgeous girl now working there. His curiosity piqued, he wants to talk to her, but it seems that every time he drops in, she’s hiding from him.
But...
I suppose it’s supposed to be a tease, a quick little novella before the big story comes out, and in that sense, Cupcakes and Ink does exactly what it’s supposed to do. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. It’s been ages since CW&IA was pulled from fanfiction sites, and I’m dying to see what happens now that it’s been reworked for publishing. So I’m not all kinds of happy that I only got a teensy little peek.
The Verdict...
For what it is, a brief glimpse of what’s to come, it’s fantastic. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get into the story after so long, but already I want more — all of it, to be specific. In transitioning to published fiction, the story hasn’t lost its appeal. The sexual tension is building already, in just a couple of short chapters, and the mood has definitely been set. The writing so far is superb, and it’s clear that at least this part of the story has been freshly redone, still loyal to the characters and the story, but with something different, something more, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

Cupcakes and Ink The Clipped Wings Series edition by Helena Hunting Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Great story but short. Can't wait to go onto the next story.
Tenley is a quiet and shy girl and just moved to a new apartment. She lives above a store and recently got a job there. She is intrigued by the owner of the Tattoo Parlor across the street.
Hayden co-owns the shop with some friends. He is interested in Tenley but she is extremely shy.
Can't wait to find out what happens next.
Clipped Wings series by Helena Hunting is amazing. One of the best series I've read... how I lasted so long without reading it is beyond me. I am grateful for the recommendation to read this author as I have now devoured nearly all her books. This series is intriguing, hot, suspenseful and addicting. It makes me crave the hum of a tattoo gun.
A great beginning to Hayden and Tenley's love story. This novella is short but it gives you the story behind Hayden and Tenley's lives.
Both have been through tragic, unexpected loss that has them both yearning, unknowingly for love and peace in their lives.
They quietly watch each other, fantasize about each other.
I love the author's writing style purchased Clipped Wings and Inked Armor when I got this novella.
This story is unlike any other I have read and I am excited find out where the story goes.
Helena captures those giddy feelings of the new love astonishingly well. In C&I, the mutual interest between Hayden and Tenley is sooo much fun to watch happen. I loved reading how the desire slowly escalates until neither of them can deny it. You can feel it through the pages, the increase in heartbeats and the coy planning to run into each other. Having read this post reading Clipped Wings and Inked Armor, I loved getting more back story on Haydens of so conveniently timed coffee runs and the sly voyeurism the two unwittingly share.
More 5 star accolades to Helena's series and to this little novella!
This should have been free. It is a teaser...... Paying a dollar for such a small sample was ridiculous. Just skip and go to book one.
This is a great teaser to get the reader interested. Tenley moves in above Serendipity, a store owned by Cassie the aunt of Hayden. She also gets a job at the store too. Tenley is intrigued by the man in the tattoo parlor across the street, who just happens to visit his aunt daily as well. She's having sexual fantasies about him, which she finds embarrassing so she hides out whenever Hayden is in the shop. Little does she know she has captured his eye as well.
I am eager to read the next book, but will have to wait as the current price is a little hefty compared to others out there. I have a few books in my archives waiting to be read so I can finish them while the price drops from the 7.60 price tag.
It is short. Very short. It includes a peek of Clipped Wings, and I definitely want to check it out. This prequel introduces us to Hayden and Tenley. We get a sneak peek at their first encounter, and see that there was definitely interest on both sides from the get go.
Tenley just moved to Chicago to start grad school, and Hayden owns a tattoo shop. He’s into ink and steel, and Tenley is a bit of a mystery. Tenley is living in an apartment above a bookshop/antique store that is attached to a coffee shop. Hayden’s tattoo shop is across the street. Eventually she starts helping, and then working for her landlord, Cassie, who owns/runs the shop downstairs. Cassie, as it turns out, is Hayden’s aunt. He stops by to see her often and to grab coffee from the adjoining shop. The attraction is there for both sides, but that’s all we really see in this novella/prequel.
It was just a taste, and maybe the snippet at the end was what really whetted my appetite. Either way I definitely want to start Clipped Wings ASAP. I’m not sure if the prequel is really needed, but 99 cents is cheap enough.
Book #2-Inked Armor, is coming out in a couple of weeks. Another 99 cent novella, #2.5-Cracks in the Armor, featuring another partner in Hayden’s tattoo shop, Chris, comes out in June.
Apparently we’re left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of Clipped Wings, so I’m glad book 2 is coming soon!
